Italy · Piedmont · Alto Piedmont
In the rolling hills of Alto Piemonte, where Nebbiolo (locally known as Spanna) has thrived for centuries, Colombera & Garella is at the forefront of the region’s renaissance. Founded by Carlo Colombera and his son Giovanni, with the expertise of Cristiano Garella, this winery is dedicated to rediscovering the historic vineyards of Bramaterra, Lessona, and Coste della Sesia.
Unlike their Barolo and Barbaresco counterparts, Alto Piemonte’s iron-rich volcanic and porphyry soils give Nebbiolo a leaner, more mineral-driven expression. The estate works primarily with Nebbiolo, blending it with Vespolina and Croatina—two indigenous grapes that add spice and vibrancy to their wines.
With a focus on organic viticulture, minimal intervention, and precise winemaking, Colombera & Garella produces wines that are elegant, structured, and deeply connected to their terroir. Their approach highlights the bright acidity and finesse that have made Alto Piemonte one of Italy’s most exciting wine regions to watch.
