Austria · Kremstal
Weingut Geyerhof is a historic family-owned winery located in the Kremstal region of Lower Austria. The estate's viticultural roots trace back to 1072, and for over 14 generations, the Maier family has been dedicated to crafting wines that authentically express their terroir.
The 23-hectare vineyard is situated on the southern bank of the Danube River, characterized by loess, loam, and primary rock soils at an altitude of 280 meters. This cool Pannonian climate provides optimal conditions for cultivating grape varieties such as Grüner Veltliner, Riesling, and Zweigelt, resulting in wines with notable freshness and complexity.
Since 1988, Geyerhof has embraced organic farming practices, emphasizing biodiversity and soil health. Over 13% of the estate is dedicated to hedges and nature conservation areas, fostering a balanced ecosystem that enhances vine resilience. The vineyards are cultivated without synthetic chemicals, and cover crops with wild herbs support beneficial insects, eliminating the need for insecticides.

In the cellar, the Maier family employs a low-intervention philosophy to preserve the purity and individuality of their wines. Grapes are hand-harvested at full phenolic ripeness, and fermentation occurs spontaneously with native yeasts. The use of enzymes, fining agents, and cultured yeasts is eschewed, allowing the wines to naturally reflect their origin.
Weingut Geyerhof's commitment to sustainability and quality has earned it Demeter certification, underscoring its dedication to biodynamic principles. The estate's holistic approach, integrating viticulture with arable farming, cattle, draft horses, chickens, and bees, exemplifies a harmonious relationship with nature.
