Pouce-Pied is a burgeoning winery located in Châteauvieux, at the southern tip of the Loir-et-Cher department in France's Loire Valley. Established in 2023 by Breton friends Corentin Allot and Sébastien Lincy, the winery reflects their shared passion for natural winemaking. Their journey began in 2010 during their first harvest with Hervé Villemade in Cheverny, sparking a deep-seated interest in viticulture.
The estate currently encompasses 2 hectares, cultivating varieties such as Sauvignon Blanc, Chenin Blanc, and Menu Pineau. The vineyards are situated on clay-rich and stony soils with limestone subsoils, providing a unique terroir that imparts distinct minerality to the wines. One parcel lies adjacent to the winery, while another is perched at the highest point of Saint-Julien-de-Chédon, benefiting from cool, windy conditions that enhance grape freshness.
Corentin and Sébastien are committed to organic farming practices, forgoing chemical treatments to maintain soil health and biodiversity. In the cellar, they employ natural vinification methods, including spontaneous fermentation without added yeasts, and avoid fining or filtration. This minimalist approach allows the wines to authentically express their terroir.
Their inaugural 2023 vintage introduced five cuvées, crafted from both estate-grown grapes and those sourced from like-minded growers. Notable offerings include "Route-Pêche," a 100% Menu Pineau white wine, and "Godille," a Sauvignon Blanc that showcases refreshing and elegant aromas reminiscent of citrus, lychee, and elderflower. The wines are celebrated for their purity, balance, and reflection of the founders' Breton heritage.
Pouce-Pied's dedication to sustainable practices and natural winemaking positions them as a promising new presence in the Loire Valley, offering wines that are both expressive and true to their origins.
