Savoie (including Bugey) is the sole Alpine wineregion in France. It is located in eastern France, in the mountainous areas just south of Lac Léman (Lake Geneva) and the border with Switzerland. The region has around 2.000 hectares of vines.
The climate in Savoie is continental climate with alpine and Mediterranean influences
Vines in Savoie are often planted on mountain slopes between 250 to 550m altitude.
They have a lovely set of indigenous grapes, 2/3 of the grapes grown are white. For the white, Jacquere, Altesse (Roussette), Rousanne, Chasselas and Gringet. The red grapes are Monduese and Persan.
