Loire

The Loire Valley vineyard is a vast wine-producing area in France, encompassing several wine-producing regions, all located along the Loire and its affluent rivers. The wine region extends over a thousand kilometres, explaining the important diversity of terroirs and a great range of wines, although sometimes from the same grape varieties. The valley is divided between the dry wines to the east (Sancerre and Pouilly) and the west (Muscadet) where the sweeter wines of Tourraine and Anjou are found in the in the middle of the region.

Among the grape varieties from which the wines of the Loire Valley are made, the most frequently cultivated are, in white, Chenin Blanc, Sauvignon and Melon de Bourgogne (or Muscadet). For reds, Cabernet Franc, Gamay and Pinot Noir.
