2023, Le P'tit blanc

France · Loire · Coteaux du Layon
Domaine des Sablonnettes is a family-owned winery located in the heart of the Coteaux du Layon AOC in France's Loire Valley. For over three decades, Christine and Joël Menard have been crafting wines that embody the essence of their terroir. Their 13-hectare estate is cultivated using biodynamic methods, reflecting their commitment to natural and sustainable viticulture.
The vineyards are planted on schist soils, which benefit from a temperate climate that provides optimal conditions for grape varieties such as Cabernet Franc, Grolleau, Gamay, and Chenin Blanc. This environment allows the grapes to develop rich flavours while maintaining refreshing acidity, resulting in complex and well-structured wines.
In the cellar, the Menards employ traditional vinification techniques with minimal intervention. Grapes are hand-harvested and destemmed before undergoing maceration, which typically lasts for five days. Fermentation is spontaneous, relying on native yeasts, and the wines are neither fined nor filtered. Aging occurs in tanks for several months, allowing the wines to develop complexity while preserving their vibrant character.
Sustainability is at the core of Domaine des Sablonnettes' philosophy. By practicing biodynamic agriculture, they enhance soil health and biodiversity, ensuring the longevity of their vineyards. Their wines are certified organic and biodynamic by Qualité France, underscoring their dedication to environmental stewardship.
Christine and Joël's personal touch is evident in their diverse range of wines, each reflecting their passion and respect for nature. From the fresh and floral "P’tit Blanc" to the lively and fruit-forward "Les Copains d’Abord," their portfolio offers a genuine expression of the Loire Valley's terroir.
