Pistis Sophia

Italy · Abruzzo · Ortona

Pistis Sophia, embedded between the ruggedly beautiful Maiella mountains and the turquoise Adriatic sea in central Italy's Abruzzo, makes wines that are primal, full of life and filled with incredible power and finesse. Much more than a simple winery, Pistis Sophia is the incarnation of the unconditional love of David (whose family had been making wine naturally for generations for personal and friend's consumption) for the wild beauty, spirit and the traditions of his land. The most inspired vinnaturist spirit and environmental ethic guide work in the vineyard (where even natural copper and sulphur treatments are very minimal) and in the cellar, where nothing is added or taken away.

There is never any addition of SO2 at any stage and all wines have a total SO2 of less than 20mg/lt. Varieties are the local traditional ones such as Montepulciano and Trebbiano and the ancient, long-lost, almost extinct grape Pergolone. Each wine is a veritable explosion of power, quirky geniality and depth. All whites see 10-30 days of skin contact, with two exceptional declinations being one Solera method of vintages 2015-19 and a "magnetised" orange wine. These are wines of unique character and terroir- driven might. Often a vibe of Friuli wines, with a lightest body...
